Custom Jewellery CAD Design: What to Include in Your Request

A clear design brief helps turn a jewellery idea into a focused CAD discussion. Whether you are planning a temple-inspired pendant, a Nakshi necklace element or a coordinated earring set, the right information makes it easier to assess your requirements before work begins.

Use this checklist when contacting AB Cad Design through Jewelrystlfiles.com about a custom digital jewellery design. This is a guide to preparing your enquiry, not a confirmation of pricing, delivery time or acceptance of a project.

1. Describe the jewellery piece

Tell us what you want to create: a ring, pendant, necklace, bangle, earring pair or another component. Explain whether you need a single piece, a matching set or an element intended to fit an existing design.

Include your preferred style, such as temple-inspired, Nakshi, Polki-inspired or contemporary. Identify which details matter most and which can be adjusted.

2. Share clear references

Provide sketches, photographs or marked-up images showing the direction you have in mind. Label the features you want to discuss, such as the outline, central motif, border or decorative relief. Front, side and back views can be helpful when available.

Use reference material you have permission to share. References should communicate your requirements; they do not automatically establish permission to reproduce another designer's work.

3. Give dimensions with units

State the required height, width and other relevant measurements in millimetres. For rings, include the size and sizing system. For bangles, explain whether a measurement refers to the inner diameter or another part of the piece.

If the design must connect to an existing component, provide its dimensions and photographs. Mark any fixed measurements clearly. If a dimension is undecided, say so rather than guessing.

4. Explain stones and settings

If stones are involved, provide their shapes, dimensions, quantities and preferred setting style where known. Explain whether the stones are already available or are still being selected.

Do not rely on a reference photograph alone to communicate stone sizes. If you have a stone layout or supplier measurements, include those with the request.

5. Describe your production plan

Tell us the intended metal and whether your manufacturer has specific requirements for printing, casting, assembly or finishing. Share any minimum-thickness or connection requirements supplied by your production team.

If you have a target finished weight, describe it as a target for discussion, not a guaranteed outcome. Final weight and manufacturing results depend on the design, material and production process.

6. Specify the digital files you need

State which file formats your workflow requires, such as STL, 3DM or OBJ, and whether you need an editable model or a file for a specific production stage. Mention the software and version used by your team if compatibility matters.

Requested formats and deliverables need to be confirmed for the individual project. A request for several formats does not mean that every format is automatically included.

7. Include your deadline and budget

Share your preferred completion date, any production milestones and your budget range. If a deadline is fixed, highlight it in your first message. Ask for confirmation of scope, fees, revision arrangements and timing before proceeding.
